Jason Thompson is a technical advisor and experienced mechanical engineer focusing on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in thermodynamics, biomechanics and fluid systems.

Prior to joining Panitch Schwarze Belisario & Nadel LLP, Jason was a primary examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In this capacity he applied engineering principles, primarily in thermodynamics, to examine patent applications for heat exchangers and cryogenic air separation. He also coordinated with attorneys and agents to facilitate patent applications, provided inter-office research and classification guidance, and supported management in training junior examiners.

Jason’s first-hand experience at the USPTO helps to streamline the patent prosecution process because he has insight as to what examiners are looking for, how examiners interpret claim limitations, and how they apply art.

Jason received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on heat and fluid transfer from Lehigh University. As part of earning this degree he conducted on-site research pertinent to heat transfer at two coal-fired power plants. Jason also earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering with a focus on biomechanics from Drexel University.
